Copycat - 5.10.12

full - 51012

Blazer: The Limited (2012)
Top: The Limited (2011)
Pants: NY&Co (2010)
Belt: random pop-up store in mall (2010)
Earrings: Target (2011)
Bracelet: NY&Co (2009)
Shoes: Fioni / Payless (2011)

I must confess: I totally stole the idea for this outfit from another blogger - do you know Christine from Work It? If you don't, you should. She puts together some of the greatest looks - including one from yesterday's post which you can find here. I just loved the blue blazer + black and white print + yellow belt combo so much that I recreated it for myself today. It was a little too chilly here to wear a dress so I opted instead for this printed top and the black ankle pants. I think it works just as well but I'm still not as cute as she is.

Who wears a blazer two days in a row in her last week of stay-at-home-momdom? Me! Me! Actually the blazer was perfect today because as I mentioned above, it was a little chilly - low 60s here pretty much all day. I ran errands (took my car for inspection, bought my mother-in-law her Mother's Day gift, went to JCP to see if they had a pair of shoes I found online last night that I wanted to buy, took my mom to lunch) so the outfit served me well. And these shoes - I have only worn them once before, last summer to work, but I remembered them being pretty comfortable and thankfully I was right. Who knew, Payless shoes, breaking the stereotype of "cheap pumps = ouchie feet" all over the place. Thumbs UP, Payless!

So those shoes that I found online last night from JC Penney? (Find them here online.)

Adorable, right? I was so excited to find these - I had been considering laying down close to $60 on a similar pair from Nine West so to get these for half that price and not have to sacrifice the cute factor is pretty rad. (Yes, I said "rad." Shoes make me say things.) I have a pair of LOFT white pants I bought a few summers ago that I never wear because the length is really wonky but these wedges will be perfect with them! (And another pair of pants I just bought from LOFT last week in a beautiful coral hue.) Don't you love buying pieces that allow you to wear otherwise-unwearable items in your wardrobe? (Better to justify my purchase to my husband, too. He just told me our credit card spending amount for this month and not including plane tickets for an upcoming wedding, we're already over budget by $700. And our "month" ends on the 24th... still two weeks from now. Whoops. My poor little credit card must be exhausted. The past week plus I have gone a little nutty just because. A girl with a job can get a cut and color, and a manicure, and eat out lunches a lot, and and and. You get the picture.)

I got official word today - I start on Monday! I am excited and nervous. I haven't had to start at a new job with new people since the year 2000, after all. Now... what do I wear?

  2. Great look inspired by a great blog. I love the blue jacket! Adorbs. And yes, shoes do make people do crazy things (reference? someone emailed me a coupon code for the shoes I've been stalking... I bought them asap even though I'm still waiting for my ebay stuff to finish up. Oops!)

Congrats on the job start! I need to get started more seriously on my job hunt. Ugh, it's hard hunting online.

  4. For first day duds, how about a dress with pockets, a cute cardi, cuter pumps and colorful accessories? Dress to please yourself. Who else matters? You are enjoying one of the benefits of casual dress is "casual" is the bottom. You have a whole range of "top" dressing to explore and define!

  5. See - I think you'll do well in a more "casual" environment". You rock the appropriate for workin' it or kickin' it!

  7. I sooooo "get the picture"! What better way to start off a new job than with a celebratory "me-spree"!!! I don't blame you. Not. one. bit.

I think this one of my favorite looks on you. It's very sharp! I think what I like most is the combination of the length of the pants and your shoes!

  12. Ahh those wedges are adorable and I love that Pewter-Silvery color. I should have packed more wedges from USA when I moved here, especially more low-heeled ones like yours. I also looooove the shoes you are wearing and OMG they are from Payless. I actually own many shoes from Payless. I left 75% of my shoes in USA, with about 60% of my clothes, but I have promised myself I will get most of them, shipped or whatever, one day. At least I know my feet will never change sizes (except for when I am expecting... =P).

Very cute outfit. I own that very same top too and is one of those tops still left at my bedroom's closet in my parents' house (in US). But by European standards I own a ton of clothing for my space, so I will get to wear everything I own and enjoy it before my mom packs me some "new" items.

Good Luck with the new job starting on Monday. I think for your first day you should wear a neutral pencil skirt (black, beige, navy, nude, gray or brown), a pretty and colorful floral top, a 3/4-sleeve blazer (either white, tan or khaki) and some red shoes, like red pumps, peep-toes or wedges. I can picture this outfit in my head right now and it sounds GORGEOUS!! =) I am sure no matter what you decide to wear you will look DIVINE!! You always do.

  13. I love everything about that outfit, right down to the geometric shoes.

You wear cropped and ankle pants better than any other blogger I know. What is your secret? I can never find any that don't make me look like a house.

  14. Congrats on the new job!! I have zero outfit advice because when I'm in doubt I always turn to black pants, flat, and a floral top. Blending bore is my safe zone :) Good luck Monday! Also, I might have to steal this look from you. I love it all!
